There is plenty of parking at the Race Course for vehicles during the day and night on both days. Self contained campervans can also stay in the car park overnight. The conference itself will be held in the Race course conference centre, while the evening dinners will be held in the Showgate lounge hall.
We will be having social drinks, a nice hot soup and a bread roll and there will be a pre-loved equipment sales table during this time. We invite you to come along, do your registration for the conference and have a look at our new club rooms and maybe purchase a few items from the “sales” table, meet with some old friends and hopefully make some new ones.
Alternatively you can register on the morning Saturday 4th June between 0800 hrs and 0900 hrs in the venue foyer. The registration form is included in this issue of Break In and also available here for download. For registration payment this year we are accepting cheque, or internet banking. If you are paying by internet banking you MUST include your name and call sign as reference and please state date of payment into the account when sending the registration form. No reference - no registration. Please note each person must have a separate registration form. The full cost of registration should be paid before the 16th May, otherwise a late payment surcharge must be added, as detailed on the registration form.
On Saturday, the entire programme will take place at the Racecourse venue. Registrations on the day will be open from 8AM until 9AM, and then the conference will be opened by the Christchurch Mayor Leanne Dalzell or her delegate. Following this, the NZART Annual General Meeting will start, and flow through to lunchtime. The AGM will conclude early in the afternoon, to be followed by our key note speaker (to be confirmed), and then onto the AREC AGM. This should conclude by late afternoon, leaving enough time to recharge before pre dinner drinks at 5.30PM followed by a buffet dinner at 6.30PM being held in the Show lounge Hall. Various awards will be presented at the Dinner.
For the people choosing the alternative Saturday programme we have planned a wonderful day out. The bus will depart from the conference venue after morning tea to take you for a visit the art gallery, “Restart” mall, then over to the Tannery for lunch and some retail therapy, and then find a winery on our way back to the conference venue.
The programme for Sunday 5th June will start early with the AGM’s for WARO, OTC, SPAM and AMSAT-ZL. After morning tea the forums will continue, and you will find the full forum list, along with a brief subject description on the programme page within this Break In issue, or on the conference website. The day will once again conclude around 5PM, allowing time for members to recover in time for pre dinner drinks beginning around 5PM with a buffet dinner commencing at 7.30PM. At this time we will be announcing the winners of the raffles that will have been drawn earlier in the evening. We hope to have a fun Quiz for you all to enjoy later in the night and there will be background music entertainment on both nights as we would rather you relax and be able to have great conversations with both old and new friends that you have found over the weekend . The evening will conclude around 11pm.
After the WARO AGM on Sunday morning, you have free time to wonder through the amazing Riccarton Markets that are held on site every week. There are plenty of amazing things to be found at this paradise for shopaholics, and later in the morning you have the opportunity to take part in a city tour including a tram ride, tour of Hagley Park gardens and gondola ride to the top of the port hills for lunch, returning to the venue later in the day.
For Accommodation, there are plenty of motels close to the venue, the closest being the Race Course Motel which is directly across the road from the conference centre. We suggest you book now to secure a room, so see website for further details. Yaldhurst Road and Riccarton Road have many Motels close to the venue. Please make sure you book early so you do not miss out. All hotel reservations must be done by yourself as we will not be able to book accommodation.
We will be having some fantastic raffles for you to enter, so don’t forget to put a little extra cash in your pockets to purchase the tickets. A sample of the prizes include a ICOM D-Star ID-51A handheld, a Ham Pack of essential radio items, an FT101 nostalgia beauty, a pamper pack prize, plus more!. This is all in addition to the usual WARO raffle. You have to be in to win!
